Michael Lalor has entered his scratch-built “Moonraker” set from the James Bond movie in the SciFiantasy MOTY 2018 Contest

The model is a replica of one of the sets from the Bond movie “Moonraker”. It’s completely scratch built with the only information available being the few short clips of the set in the movie itself. Everything is self-made. The majority of the screens on the walls are backlit and I recreated as close as possible the screens from the movie using Photoshop. There are also 4 x 3.5″ screens running on 4 Raspberry Pi computers. Each screen is running a different video and again I created the videos in Photoshop. At the center over the command-chair is an Orchid created using wire, model filler, and styrene. The casing is made from plywood and I gave it a light coat of oil to make it blend in with the furniture when it’s in its final position.

Here are some of the stats for this build…

A total of 6 months to build from start to finish.
248 fiber optic cables
40 LEDs
4 3.5″ screens
4 x Raspberry Pi computers
16 AA batteries
5 9v batteries
1 USB hub
1 Speaker

This build will be entered in the Diorama category.

I have been building models since I am about 8 years old. As many of us have, I picked up the hobby from my father. Without him I would probaby have never known this great hobby. I like to build everything from Military Models to Starships. Right now my passion is to build and light science fiction models.
