Adam Courville has entered his VF-1A-S Valkyrie

This is a newer kit of the 1:72 scale Bandai VF-1A-S Valkyrie from the Japanese Macross series show. The model is a newly tooled kit similar to earlier renditions. This Valkyrie was built with no modifications. The build is a more sophisticated than the older ones with more points of articulation and richer detail. Unlike the previous versions, the transformation is self-contained and more complex. The kit is molded in color so only small parts were painted and waterslide decals finished off the markings.
Transforming from a fighter plane, gerwalk then to battroid is a delicate process but can be done safely in a slow manner. The movable joints are molded into the parts instead of the old poly caps. To enhance the fine panel lines, a homemade wash was mixed from equal parts of Tamiya acrylics, acrylic solvent, and water. A fine synthetic paint brush(00) was used to wick the mix into the panel lines. The scale of this model displays well with the other 1:72 scale Macross Valkyries, old and newer.

This build will be entered in the Sci-Fi and Fantasy Ships and Vehicles all Scales category.

Kenny Conklin

I have been building models since I was about 8 years old. As many of us did, I picked up the hobby from my father. Without him, I would probably have never known this great hobby. I like to build everything from Military Models to Starships. Right now my passion is to build and light science fiction models.
